Sales Development Representative (SDR)

Root helps companies secure containerized software without disrupting workflows or requiring extensive retooling. We embed into existing CI/CD pipelines and registries to automatically remediate vulnerabilities—not just detect them. Our core technology powers deep, in-place security for open source and container ecosystems.

At the center of this is Patch Platoon: our agentic system that performs patch research and backport generation for open source libraries. Patch Platoon explores public advisories, source code, and changelogs to autonomously generate and test security patches, providing practical fixes even where upstream patches don’t yet exist.

What you’ll do

• Own top-of-funnel outreach: prospect, engage, and qualify inbound and outbound leads
• Craft thoughtful messaging via email, LinkedIn, and cold calls
• Identify key decision-makers and initiate conversations with engineering, security, and DevOps leaders
• Book high-quality meetings for the sales team and maintain clear pipeline hygiene
• Collaborate with marketing to test messaging and improve campaign results
• Log activity and results in our CRM and support data-driven sales decisions
• Represent Root’s brand with enthusiasm, professionalism, and curiosity

What we’re looking for

• 0–2 years of experience in B2B tech sales or SDR roles (we’ll consider new grads with relevant drive!)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interest in cybersecurity, cloud, and developer tools
• Coachable, resourceful, and hungry to learn
• Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
• Comfortable working with tools like LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Hubspot/Salesforce, Outreach.io, Apollo, etc.

Bonus points

• Previous experience in a cybersecurity or developer-focused company
• Familiarity with common cloud-native tools and lingo (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Based in Boston or willing to commute occasionally
