Hue - Founding Full Stack Engineer

Hue (poweredbyhue.com) is a fast-growing, venture-backed B2B SaaS e-commerce startup on a mission to help all shoppers feel represented in their online shopping journey. Hue's technology embeds authentic video reviews on brand's DTC shopping websites, leveraging a community of 2000+ diverse micro content creators to generate UGC. Hue was founded in 2021 by Harvard MBA classmates Janvi Shah (previously PM at Google), Nicole Clay (previously Director of Marketing at L'Oreal), and Sylvan Guo (previously Growth & Analytics at Tubi/Fox and Airbnb), who all experienced the pain point of struggling to find products that suit their skin tone and body type when shopping online. They went on to raise over $4 million in venture capital funding from Fika Ventures, Underscore VC, Sequoia Scouts, and more. Summary

We’re looking for a collaborative, action-oriented and product-driven Senior Fullstack Engineer to join our founding team. You’ll be joining a team with a proven product and track record with real customers, and as the first full-time Engineering hire, you’ll have the opportunity to have a huge impact in a fast-growing startup. From both a technical and cultural standpoint you will set the bar for the engineers who join after you.

We are looking for Senior Engineers with Full-Stack Web Development experience. What we’re looking for:

• Wears many hats: You will need to be comfortable with a lack of structure and taking on multiple roles (eg. frontend, backend, DevOps, QA, customer support, etc.). You are excited and capable of working in many areas and have a depth of expertise in a few.
• Product-driven mindset and strong user empathy: You will be excited to dive into the needs of our customers and anticipate ways we can enhance our features and influence the product roadmap.
• Embraces ambiguity: You will be working closely with the founders to solve big problems. You will need to be energized by unknowns and solve open-ended problems without clear boundaries or requirements.
• Action-oriented and moves fast: You make decisions thoughtfully, build efficiently, and are excited about leveraging user feedback to iterate quickly. You care deeply about both speed AND quality.

We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, organized, driven, passionate, and comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment. The position is open to US and Canada based engineers within the US mainland time zones (PST - EST).

Must haves:

• 4+ years of experience in full-stack development - early stage startup experience preferred
• BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
• A strong technical background in software development, including experience with:

1. Full stack JavaScript tooling and libraries, ideally React, NestJS, PrismaORM
2. High-performance relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
3. Cloud hosting providers, ideally AWS

• Proven experience with good software development principles around testing, CI, and DevOps/deployment strategies
• Passionate about building high-quality, beautifully designed products and user experiences
• Results-oriented, self-motivated individual with a proven track record in product building and engineering to help meet the company’s objectives and business targets.
• Highly strategic with strong product and business acumen and critical thinking ability
• Independent, highly motivated and comfortable working at a fast pace
• A passion for Hue’s core mission and values

Nice to have:

• Proven experience as a lead or founding engineer in a startup environment is highly desirable
• Domain expertise in any of the following areas would be nice-to-have:
• Experience in data engineering (databases and data pipelines)
• Experience with building ML/AI recommender systems
• Experience building high-scale video hosting and serving platforms
• Experience building for / integrating with e-commerce platforms (eg. Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, etc)
• Experience with analytics tools such as Mixpanel and Google Analytics

Role and Responsibilities:

• Architect and build scalable full-stack web applications.
• Work closely with the founding team to align technical solutions with business objectives.
• Develop and maintain code across the stack, including frontend interfaces and backend services.
• Ensure high performance and responsiveness of applications.
• Lead code reviews and drive best practices across the engineering team.
• Integrate third-party APIs and services as needed.
• Mentor and share knowledge with other engineers as the team grows
